The Elizabeth M. Pfriem Children's Emergency Center: Basic Safety Information

The Elizabeth M. Pfriem Children's Emergency Center at Bridgeport Hospital is the best place to be if the worst ever happens-to you or your child. But our mission is to keep you and your child out of the hospital. That's why we urge you to make sure your child understands some basic safety rules:

  • Children under age nine should not cross the street unsupervised.
  • Walk on the sidewalk whenever possible.
  • Cross at the corner or the crosswalk.
  • Look both ways when you cross the street!
  • When getting off the school bus: wait for the bus to stop; raise your hands high so the driver can see you; look both ways; cross in front of the bus, not behind it.
  • Our "Safety Street" program is designed to teach youngsters how to safely cross the street. You can have a "Safety Street" program at your school, religious organization, camp, park, or other organization. To learn more, call 203-384-3678.
