The Elizabeth M. Pfriem Children's Emergency Center

When your child needs emergency care, his or her fear of a strange environment can add to the stress. Now, children 18 and under who are ill or injured can be given the specialized care they need in the reassuring, child-friendly Elizabeth M. Pfriem Children's Emergency Center at Bridgeport Hospital.

Located in the Emergency Department’s attractive, new 11,000-square-foot addition, the Children's Emergency Center provides specialized emergency care for ill or injured children. Most importantly, the center's staff knows that children's fears and anxieties are often different from those of adults. "We have always cared for children in the Emergency Department," says Michael Werdmann, MD, Chairman of Emergency Medicine and medical director of the Children's Emergency Center, "but we also have staff specially skilled in pediatric care."

Located near the entrance and parking area for convenient access and to shield children from the rest of the department, the Elizabeth M. Pfriem Children’s Emergency Center includes a waiting area with chjld-sized furniture, a fish tank, and an activity center where waiting children can play.

"The Children's Emergency Center provides an important service to families in our region and support for our community-based pediatricians' offices," says Thomas Kennedy, MD, Chairman of Pediatrics.

Coming to the Emergency Department doesn't have to be so frightening for your child. Special care from the special staff of the Children's Emergency Center at Bridgeport Hospital can help make a scary experience much easier.
