Interventional Cardiology
If diagnostic procedures determine that there is a blockage in the blood vessels of the heart, Bridgeport Hospital offers a variety of special techniques that can open clogged heart arteries without surgery. These procedures, which require an overnight stay, include balloon angioplasty, stents, atherectomy, and rotoblator. Bridgeport Hospital pioneered many of these procedures in the region, bringing new, effective treatments to the people of southern Connecticut. The newest technology used by the cardiologists are Drug Eluting Stents. These new stents allow the cardiologists to treat clogged arteries in a more effective manner than bare metal stents.
