Trauma Center for Severe Illnesses and Injuries

Bridgeport Hospital is a regional Trauma Center, with the staffing, facilities and procedures to provide comprehensive, coordinated care for the most severe illnesses and injuries. The Trauma Team at Bridgeport Hospital consists of experienced physicians, nurses, physician assistants, technicians, therapists, social workers and other healthcare professionals who are highly skilled in the care of the trauma patient.

The hospital is part of southern Connecticut’s only state-designated regional center for emergency preparedness and disaster response, and has its own air-ambulance helipad for the rapid transport of traumatically injured patients. Bridgeport Hospital is the site of the Dr. Andrew J. & Henrietta Panettieri Burn Center, Connecticut’s only dedicated burn care facility, and the Chest Pain Center for the rapid diagnosis and treatment of heart attacks.

Through its close relationship with area ambulance services, Bridgeport Hospital provides expert care to the trauma patient beginning in the field, and continues that care throughout the course of the patient’s hospitalization and beyond, including the Emergency Department, Operating Room, Intensive Care Units and inpatient/outpatient Rehabilitation settings.

Employing sophisticated diagnostic technology, the hospital’s trauma care experts can quickly assess a patient’s injuries and develop the most appropriate course of care. Patients benefit from the around-the-clock availability of physicians in more than 70 medical and surgical specialties, including Anesthesia and Pain Management, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Burn and Wound Care, and Rehabilitative Medicine.
